Sound Recordist: SEAN VAN DELFT
Being on the set of Spring was an enjoyable experience. The attitude was really energetic and positive. Everyone was on top of their game and just out to make a great short. The months before Spring I had been working with the director Lynne Kamm on a regular basis but this was my first chance to really see her direct something in this format. She is super enthusiastic and really brought out great energy from the performers. The second day had its stressful moments being a daylight dependent shoot and before we knew it we were racing the light trying to capture those last few crucial shots. My favourite moment on Spring was probably after the shoot when I got to partake in the final audio mix hours before it was being handed off to the producers. Just playing with those last few details that really made a big difference in some of the comedic moments of the film. I am very happy with how the film turned out and appreciate being able to be a part of it.
Biography: Sean van Delft grew up in Pickering, Ontario just outside of Toronto. After going to school for web design and realizing this was not the career he wanted to pursue he attended Humber College studying in their Film and Television Production program. Upon arriving at Humber he narrowed his focus down to the sound departments. After graduation he purchased a complete kit of location audio equipment and began to work as a freelance sound recordist. 2 years and many credits later he has expanded his operation to include a small home studio where he has begun handling post work on independent shorts. Future plans include building a full recording studio and continuing his work in Toronto’s film industry.
Spring Note: In 2009, Lynne and Sean made three movies together… first was D’Une Rive A L’Autre a bilingual musical Lynne scribed and Sean was the sound recordist, second a pilot for a docu-drama series that Lynne directed and produced and finally Spring. Not only is Sean’s sound impeccable, his on-set demeanor is jovial. Lynne asked Sean to be her ‘outside ear’ in the final mix for Spring.
